Los Angeles’ best kept secret, metal band My Ruin. Fronted by one of the baddest chicks in the game, Miss Tairrie B, My Ruin is more celebrated in Europe than they are in their own hometown. Their latest CD, titled “Throat Full of Heart,” should change all of that.
My Ruin wouldn’t even exist had it not been for, well, had it not been for Tairrie B’s professional death. Tairrie B began her career planning to make it big as a female rapper.
She was a protégé to the godfather of West Coast gangsta rap, the later Eazy E. When her career as a rapper didn’t take shape as she’d hoped, Tairrie was forced to choose a different path. The metal path she chose may have taken her the long way around, but ultimately it led her right to Mick Murphy. Together, they’ve formed the backbone of My Ruin with several bassists and drummers falling by the wayside in the process.
Fast forward to 2008, the music industry has seen its share of gimmicks and trickery. Talent is making its way back into the studios. “Throat Full of Heart” is near flawless from start to finish. Mick, Chris and JD seem to know Tairrie’s next note before she even opens her mouth, and Tairrie sings as though her heart is not just in her throat, but it’s in the top of her head and shoots out of her toes. They’re all beasts. Standout tracks include “Nothing is Sacred,” “Momento Mori,” “Religiosity” and “Not This Time.” The song “Ready for Blood” seems like it was meant to be the soundtrack of some X Games recap. Go snatch it up. It’s a good one.
