Akron’s Hottest New Venue

The Vortex Concert Club & Lounge on Brittain Road in Akron is the areas newest full-service concert venue, but it deserves to be one of the areas premiere concertdestination spots.

Owner Andrew Leger, an Iraq War veteran, set out to create a great concert experience for everybody and he’s succeeded. His enthusiasm for the project is evident in its execution.

As most newly opened concert clubs, the place is absolutely spotless. It doesn’t smell of the grime and filth of thousands of dedicated concert goers, yet. The place still has some innocence left. It’s refreshing.

The Vortex features a full-service bar adjacent to the stage. The bar also includes snacks like popcorn, pizza and nachos. The stage is has a state of the art sound system and features some of the most dance floor I’ve seen anywhere. Don’t feel like dancing? No problem, there’s plenty of seating available. Tables and barstools included. Bands have access to a V.I.P area and plenty of space to sell merchandize to their hungry fans. There truly is a place for everybody at the Vortex.

Younger crowds are notoriously fickle. The Vortex seems to cater to those music lovers who are younger than 35. Though anybody can enjoy a show at The Vortex. Could that mean that The Vortex is the new hip hot spot? Absolutely. A mix of rock, metal, punk and indie bills keeps things fresh and entertaining. If one band isn’t tickling your fancy, just stick around and soon enough a band with an entirely different vibe will grace the stage.
